Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 7, 2026
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how PantrySearch.com ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and full name. You may also choose to provide a username, profile picture (avatar URL), and a short biography.
- Profile Preferences: You can provide details about your dietary restrictions, favorite cuisines, cooking skill level, typical serving sizes, meal prep style, kitchen equipment, cooking goals, and theme preferences (color, font).
- Recipe Data: If you create or import recipes, we collect all associated information such as recipe title, description, ingredients, instructions, images, and source URLs.
- Meal Plan Data: Information you enter related to your meal plans, including planned meals, recipes, and custom text entries.
- Shopping Lists & Pantry Inventory: Details about your shopping lists and pantry items, including item names, amounts, units, categories, brands, stock status, expiration dates, and notes.
- User-Generated Content: Any photos, captions, or stories you create and upload to the Service.
- Communications: When you contact us for support or feedback, we collect the content of your communications, your email address, and any attachments you provide.
- Syncing Information: If you choose to sync with another member, we collect information necessary to facilitate that connection (e.g., invitation details).
- Kroger Account Connection: If you connect your Kroger account, we store authentication tokens (access and refresh tokens) to maintain your session. We do not store your Kroger username or password.
Information Collected via Device Permissions:
- Camera (Photos): If you choose to use the pantry scanning or recipe photo import features, the app will request access to your device's camera. Photos you take are uploaded to our servers and processed by AI to identify pantry items or extract recipe information (such as ingredients and instructions). Photos are used solely to fulfill your specific request and are not used for tracking, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to the feature you initiated. You can revoke camera access at any time in your device settings.
- Microphone (Voice Input): If you choose to use voice features (such as adding items to your shopping list by voice), the app will request access to your device's microphone. Audio is processed in real time to convert your speech into text. Audio recordings are not stored on our servers and are not used for tracking or advertising. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device settings.
- Photo Library: If you choose to upload existing photos (e.g., of recipes, pantry shelves, or profile pictures), the app will request access to your photo library. Only the photos you explicitly select are uploaded. We do not scan or access any other photos on your device.
Information Collected Automatically:
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, such as pages visited, features used, recipes viewed, liked, or saved, and actions taken (e.g., adding to shopping list, starting cooking mode). This may include device information, IP address, operating system, and browser type.
- Cookies and Tracking Technologies: We use cookies and similar technologies (like local storage) to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and track usage patterns for analytics.
- Analytics: For guest users, we collect anonymous analytics events (event_name, event_type, visitor_id, session_id, page_path, metadata) to understand how the app is used and improve the guest experience.
- Retailer Data: When you use Kroger integration features, product information such as images, pricing, nutrition facts, and product identifiers (UPC codes) may be retrieved from Kroger's API and cached within the app to improve performance.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To Provide and Maintain the Service: To create and manage your account, deliver meal plans, manage shopping lists, display recipes, and enable all core functionalities of the app.
- Personalization: To tailor your experience, such as recommending recipes based on your preferences, displaying your chosen theme, and showing relevant content.
- Communication: To respond to your inquiries, provide customer support, and send you important updates or notifications related to the Service.
- Improvement of the Service: To understand how users interact with the app, troubleshoot issues, and enhance existing features or develop new ones.

- Security and Fraud Prevention: To protect the integrity and security of the Service and prevent fraudulent activity.
- Attribution: To link user-generated content (e.g., recipes, stories) back to the creator.
3. How We Share Your Information
We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With Other Users: If you make your profile public, your username, full name, avatar, bio, and potentially your liked/saved recipes may be visible to other users. Your username and avatar may be displayed alongside recipes or stories you create. If you choose to sync your meal plan or pantry with another member, relevant information will be shared with that synced member.
- Third-Party Service Providers: We may share information with third-party vendors, consultants, and other service providers who perform services on our behalf (e.g., AI services for recipe generation, image generation, email delivery services, analytics providers). If you choose to use our Instacart integration, your shopping list data will be shared with Instacart to fulfill your order.
- Kroger Integration: If you choose to connect your Kroger account, we use Kroger's API to enable grocery shopping features. This involves sharing your shopping list items and product search queries with Kroger. When connected, we securely store OAuth tokens to maintain your Kroger session. We also retrieve product information from Kroger, including product images, pricing, availability, UPC codes, and nutrition facts, to enhance your shopping experience. Your Kroger account credentials are never accessed or stored by us — authentication is handled directly through Kroger's secure OAuth process.
- Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or government agency).
- Business Transfers: In connection with any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by another company, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity.
4. Data Retention
- We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. We will also retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
5. Your Data Rights
You have certain rights regarding your personal information:
- Access and Correction: You can access and update most of your profile and preference information directly within the app settings.
- Deletion: You can request the deletion of your account and all associated data directly from within the app by navigating to your Profile and selecting "Delete My Account." Upon confirmation, a deletion request will be sent to our team and processed within 30 days. You may also request deletion by emailing us at support@pantrysearch.com. Please note that some information may be retained for legal or operational purposes.
- Public/Private Profile: You can control the visibility of your profile to other users through your settings.
6. Artificial Intelligence & Automated Processing
- Our Service uses artificial intelligence (AI) and large language model (LLM) technologies to power certain features, including but not limited to: recipe generation and import, meal plan creation, ingredient categorization, image generation for recipes, and nutritional analysis.
- When you use these features, relevant data you provide (such as recipe details, ingredient lists, dietary preferences, and pantry inventory) may be sent to third-party AI service providers for processing. This data is used solely to generate the requested output and is not used to train or improve third-party AI models.
- We do not send your personal identification information (such as your name or email address) to AI service providers. Only the content necessary to fulfill your specific request is transmitted.
- AI-generated content (such as recipes, meal plans, or images) may not always be perfectly accurate. We encourage you to review all AI-generated output, especially nutritional information and cooking instructions, before relying on it.
7. Security
- We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. However, no internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
- We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
